This is one of the rarest gold coin of the S.A series. Only 142 course beard Burgers were struck. This is the most superb piece we have seen in 40 years. We estimate that only +/- 50 pieces has survived over the years. Also a cracked Die Varity. The grade of coin choice UWC - PRICE ON REQUEST ABOUT THE BURGERSPOND The Burgers "staatspond" of 1874 was the first coin ever struck for a South African government. It was made from some of the first gold ever found in the country which was to become the world's richest source of this precious metal. It is one of the greatest rarities in the whole South African coinage series. Small wonder then that it has pride of place as a great numismatic star in the eyes of every South African coin collector.
